"I Love You" is a play about love, growing up, loss, and relationships, presented on our Small Stage as well as in school classrooms. Written by German playwright Kristo Šagor, the play explores different shades of emotion—first crushes, peer relationships, and family bonds. This performance, focused on what truly matters, is aimed at teenagers and everyone else.

Julian loves Lia—he is certain of it. Lia does not return his feelings, yet she does not want Julian to lose faith in love, especially since she has just learned that his parents are getting divorced. Or maybe she simply realizes how complex love really is?

Julian and Lia engage in a theatrical game—using various fabrics (blankets, tablecloths, and pieces of material), they create scenes, set up locations, and bring different characters to life. Through simple gestures, they take on multiple roles, allowing them to explore different types of love. Their 45-minute encounter becomes an opportunity to examine long-term relationships, both those that endure and those that end in divorce, love for a pet guinea pig, lemon ice cream, and… collecting chestnuts.

But what is love, really? Can it last forever? Is it just a fleeting moment? Or… is it something far more complicated? Will Julian and Lia manage to understand the essence of love?

The play "I Love You" can be performed in the format of "classroom theatre"—a widely popular model in Germany. In this approach, a school classroom becomes the stage, where a small cast—usually just one or two actors—performs. The intimate setting fosters a close connection between the performers and the audience. Bringing theatre into a familiar environment makes it feel natural and accessible. Scripts for classroom theatre typically address important social issues or challenges faced by young people. The goal of such projects is to create space for discussion, which is why the performance is always accompanied by workshops designed to explore and deepen the themes presented in the play.

The play is intended for 7th and 8th-grade students, and, combined with the workshop, lasts for two school periods.
