"In order to create the hour-long performance directed by Tomasz Kaczorowski, it was necessary to build a small wooden universe where the characters from the Gdańsk legend would 'come to life.' A great deal of credit goes to Agnieszka Wielewska, the author of the set design and the creator of the unique puppets, carved in Miniatura's artistic workshop. These wooden sculptures—small works of art—with attached arms, sometimes legs, and even movable jaws, are the strongest element of the Gdańsk performance. Their simplicity and the finesse with which they are integrated into the world of the characters are truly captivating. This world, apart from the puppets animated by five actors, is largely defined by a uniform wall filled with small windows, where the puppet characters of the play can be seen."

"The latest premiere at Teatr Miniatura, I Don't Believe in Death, based on the text by Fr. Wacław Oszajca and directed by Tomasz Kaczorowski, is a beautiful, wise, and moving performance. Its greatest asset is the set design by Gdańsk-based artist Agnieszka Wielewska."
"The wooden sculptures created in the theater workshop are more like moving masks than puppets. These are small works of art, with attached arms, sometimes legs, or a movable jaw, brought to life by a team of five actors."

"Both the puppets and the set design were created based on Agnieszka Wielewska's design. They are undoubtedly a key strength of the performance and significantly contribute to its atmosphere. Complementing this solemn, almost sacred ambiance is the distinctive lighting, which is closely synchronized with the events unfolding on stage."

"It is difficult to take one's eyes off Agnieszka Wielewska’s puppets. These wooden forms resemble sculptures abandoned by an artist just before completion. Or pieces of driftwood, washed and cast ashore by the sea. Or ancient statues, their features eroded by the wind. When brought to life in the hands and voices of Teatr Miniatura’s actors, they speak of suffering and joy. Or of art and madness. Or of life and death. But above all, these strange, unfinished yet profoundly complete faces tell a story of love."

"However, for the performance at Teatr Miniatura to come to life, it took the talent of young Agnieszka Wielewska. As the author of the set design and, most notably, the designer of the unique puppets, she became the key creator of this theatrical masterpiece. Her original work defined the exceptional beauty and artistic quality of the production. Each wooden sculpture, telling or engaging in dialogue about the past events surrounding the creation of the Crucifixion Group, stands as an individual theatrical work of art. They give the impression of having long been carved from a single tree trunk—raw in their simplicity. Some have attached legs, others a movable jaw. Frozen in expectant gestures, much like the sculptures seen in the dim light of churches. Yet, when animated by the actors, they become expressive, dynamic, and even lyrical. They manage to exist on stage both in a tangible and a metaphysical sense."

"Wooden puppets that embody both simplicity and finesse. Nie wierzę w śmierć, based on the text by Fr. Wacław Oszajca and staged at Gdańsk's Teatr Miniatura, is one of the most beautiful performances I have ever seen. It is deeply moving due to the finality of the matters it addresses, yet it carries hope through the conviction that Love is immortal."

description:
"Can deep and fervent faith justify murder? Is unconditional forgiveness and love possible in today’s consumerist world? Where is the boundary of an artist’s creative freedom?
Nie wierzę w śmierć is an open and honest dialogue about the limits of art and religious worship, conducted between a man of the Church and a non-believer. As a starting point for this conversation, author Fr. Wacław Oszajca and director Tomasz Kaczorowski chose a Gdańsk legend about the extraordinary expression of the dying Christ from the crucifix, which is part of the 15th-century Crucifixion Group in St. Mary's Basilica. It is a story of a sculptor who killed his model to faithfully capture the expression of suffering and agony. The collaboration between the author and the director proves that opposites can foster mutual trust and respect."
