The competition is aimed at Polish painters and seeks to promote contemporary painting while spreading awareness about the outstanding artist and competition patron, Leon Wyczółkowski, who was closely connected to Bydgoszcz.
As with other survey-style events, the Leon Wyczółkowski National Painting Competition brings together a wide variety of artworks in its final exhibition. While certain artistic tendencies sometimes emerge more prominently than others—echoing throughout a showcase—this year's exhibition, presenting the selected works of Wyczółkowski Competition A.D. 2024, does not follow that pattern. Instead, it features multiple artistic currents and approaches, painting a broad and diverse picture of contemporary Polish painting.
The equal coexistence of various artistic directions, with none overwhelmingly dominant, is also reflected in the diverse group of award-winning artists featured in this year's Bydgoszcz exhibition.
