The exhibition Acoustics of Silence, presented at the Manor Art Gallery, showcases a series of paintings depicting the urban landscape. However, this is not a city that overwhelms with noise and overstimulation. Instead, these are scenes that pause time and focus on quiet places—inner courtyards and glassed-in terraces.
Agnieszka Wielewska's paintings have an affirming character, creating an atmosphere of warmth and intimacy. The city, as a space of everyday life, becomes a pretext for exploring the spiritual realm—her works calm the viewer, encouraging reflection, perhaps even contemplation. A recurring motif in this series is the tree, placed at the center of the composition or in the background, rendered not in an impressionistic manner but with a synthetic approach while still maintaining its luminous essence.
The paintings were created using the oil glazing technique on canvas. Their warm color palette, soft edges, and predominantly horizontal composition contribute to an overall sense of tenderness and delicacy.
Complementing the exhibition are small-format works: oil still lifes and sketch drawings, serving as studies of light.
Due to sanitary restrictions and the national quarantine, the exhibition is available online.
A video from the exhibition will soon be available on the website and the Facebook profile of the Society of Friends of Sopot.
